DIPLOMA IN TRAVEL, TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY
Minimum Entry Requirement | Minimum age of 17 years. Academic Level: Completion of Shelton Certificate in Higher Education OR Shelton Certificate in Advanced Study Skills OR A-Levels OR its equivalent Mature candidate of minimum age of 30 with at least 8 years working experience in TOURISM /HOSPITALITYor related industry Minimum language requirement: TOEFL 500 or IELTS 5.5 or its equivalent Score 70% in Shelton’s English Language Admission Test * Minimum language requirement is considered met if: The applicant has completed a programme from a recognized institution where English is the sole medium of instruction International applicant has attained a minimum grade of PASS in the English subject and with a certification from the Head of School that programme studied was delivered in English medium Indian students have a minimum grade of 65% in English subject at standard XII *The college reserves the right to administer an interview via skype and similar mediums in order to ascertain the language proficiency of the applicant. |

The main emphasis of the course DIPLOMA IN TRAVEL, TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY is to give students the best possible preparation for a successful career in tourism and hospitality management. Lectures on international case studies, group discussions and activities used throughout the course provide opportunities for individuals to apply their learning, to develop and enhance their knowledge and competencies in tourism and hospitality industry.
At the end of this program, learners will be able to:
Develop a good foundation of travel, tourism and hospitality skills and knowledge in order to progress to higher skills acquisition in the industry.
Analyze strategic and operational issues related to the travel and tourism industry
Gain an overview of the management, marketing and human resource principles and practices in the context of the tourism industry
Complete a six (6) months internship programme with any travel, tourism and hospitality establishment
MODULES
Core Modules:
ESSENTIALS OF THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
This module will enable the students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the nature of, trend and developments and the staffing requirements in the hospitality industry.
FUNDAMENTALS OF TRAVEL AND TOURISM
This module will enable the students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the nature of, trend and developments in the hospitality industry.
CUSTOMER SERVICE IN TRAVEL, TOURISM & HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
This module will enable the students to acquire understanding of the nature of customer service and the principle of quality service in the business and tourism/ hospitality environment
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
This module is designed to provide students with an understanding of the theoretical framework of financial accounting and the principles underlying accounting statements and enable them to prepare books of accounts, evaluate the performance and financial position of organizations and to make effective short term decisions.
FUNDAMENTALS OF MARKETING
This module is designed to investigate the principles that underpin the marketing. It is a broad-based unit providing a general overview of marketing for all students and a foundation for further study in the specialist area of marketing.
Elective Modules (Any 1):
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
This module aims to provide understanding of the concepts and practices of Human Resource Management and focuses on the personnel functions such as recruitment and retention, employee relations, employment law, training and development.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT
This module aims to assist the student to become a self-directed and confident professional capitalizing on own personal and professional skills in order to achieve personal and career objectives.
Industrial Attachment
INDUSTRY-BASED EXPERIENCE
The 6 month industrial attachment will enable the students to acquire a well-rounded education in the chosen field as it will seal the theories and concepts learned with the appropriate experience gained from the exposure to the industry. This module aims to enable the students to have a supervised exposure to actual practices in the industry (business and tourism /hospitality).
