MODULES

ARGUMENT AND EVIDENCE

This module is designed to develop students’ ability to think and reason clearly, logically, consistently and critically. This includes developing an understanding of the interplay between argument and evidence and how different types of quantitative and qualitative evidence are used in different methodologies and research paradigms.

ADVANCED ACADEMIC WRITING SKILLS

This module is designed to enhance students’ abilities to write academic English.   Emphasis is put on making students aware of the conventions used in British style university writing, as many students will have been previously exposed to other styles.   The students will learn these conventions, and through practice learn how to follow them in their writing.

ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS

This module provides students with the fundamental skills to use and understand appropriate grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. The module will help students develop tools and strategies to improve their competency in written, spoken, aural and reading comprehension skills. Students will also gain insight into how to use dictionaries efficiently and effectively to increase their understanding and improve their own vocabulary and grammar usage. The course will allow students to apply an appropriate level of English in a variety of academic situations so they are prepared to do this at the next level of study.

BUSINESS LITERATURE ANALYSIS

This module is designed to equip students with the skills needed to critically read, understand and evaluate advanced academic literature employing both sophisticated arguments and rudimentary quantitative methods.   It aims to enable them to reproduce complex arguments in their own words and to provide effective synthesis of different views on an issue or topic.

LITERATURE REVIEW

This module is designed to demonstrate and consolidate the skills learned on all other modules by preparing a literature review of a selected area in business management.

BUSINESS CONCEPTS

This module is designed to familiarize students with some basic business concepts and models which are considered workable in practice and have positively contributed towards solving organizational problems.

POST GRADUATE STUDY SKILLS

This module is designed to equip students with the study skills needed for study in UK style post-graduate education.   As many students will not have experienced UK style education before, they will be introduced to what expectations they will face and how to fulfill them.   Students will develop their personal study abilities, as well as specific academic study skills.

QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

This module is designed to ensure that students have a knowledge of basic descriptive statistics and an understanding of statistical inference so that they can intelligently read and appreciate elements of the business literature that refer to the results of quantitative business research.
