Minimum Entry Requirement


Minimum age of 17 years.

Academic Level:

Shelton Foundation Certificate in Communication, Media & Arts OR
A-Level with 2 passes OR
Completed equivalent to at least 12 years of formal education OR

Mature candidate of minimum age of 30 with at least 8 years working experience in film, TV and media production or related industry

Minimum language requirement:

GCE O-Level B4 in Chinese language or equivalent

The course Diploma in Film, TV and Media Production (Chinese) provides students with structured learning in film production theories and practices. Students will develop professional knowledge and communication skills necessary for a career in film production and related areas.

At the end of this program, students will be able to:

Develop a good foundation of film production skills and knowledge in order to progress to higher skills acquisition in film study.

Analyze strategic issues related to the film industry.

MODULE TITLE
FILM AND TV DEVELOPMENT and ANALYSIS


This module is an introductory course that focuses upon the development and analysis of world film and television history (European, American, East Asian, and Southeast Asian cinemas etc.) Emphasizing the different periods of major artistic movements, ideological trends, key films, and important filmmakers, this module aims to provide students with the analytical tools to read and analyze film and television creations.

CREATIVE PRODUCTION SKILLS


This module will introduce students to the basic technical and production skills that are necessary for film and television productions, how to frame and compose using professional cameras and lighting setups, work in an organized and systematic production workflow, and finally operate and use a non-linear editing software to assemble and edit their work.

FILM AND TV PROJECT


This module aims to consolidate the learning outcomes of all the previous modules to culminate in a series of Film and TV projects that will showcase the creativity, technical competences, and storytelling skills of the student. The student is required to develop a series of projects that include the creation and production of television commercials and short films to broadcast standards. Students will be guided through consultations, critique sessions, and workshops to help them bring their work to fruition.

NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES


This elective module aims to introduce students to use different interactive and new media technologies to craft a story in a multimedia platform. The aim is to equip students with the skills and knowledge of these media technologies to enhance and expand creative possibilities in their own independent media productions.



MODULE TITLE    CORE ELECTIVE 02
SCRIPTWRITING FOR FILM AND TELEVISION


This course is designed to train learners’ script writing skills in film and television dramas. The course is divided into three practical training sections: reading section, writing section and structuring the script section. Learners will be exploring the differences between drama writing and fiction writing and through training will achieve the appropriate writers’ way of thinking.

DIRECTING   AND PRODUCING SKILLS


In this module, students will be able to master the basic language and grammar of film and television directing, the importance of production and set design and the necessary skills involved in producing. At the end of the module, students will be equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge on directing and producing for the screen.



MODULE TITLE    CORE ELECTIVE 04
CREATIVE PERFORMANCE AND PRODUCTION


In this module, the learners will learn to create, produce, and perform a short play for a live audience. The aim of the module is to allow students to work collaboratively and creatively to learn the various roles involved in producing, staging, and performing a play.

ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN


This module aims to introduce students to the basic principles and concepts of advertising via a project-based learning approach. Students will be required to demonstrate their understanding by developing an integrated advertising campaign for a consumer product, service or public awareness campaign through the use of multimedia and digital platforms.
