The course Advanced Diploma in Film, TV and Media Production (Chinese) builds up from the knowledge and skills learned from Diploma in Film, TV and Media Production (Chinese) and provides students with the same structured learning in film, TV and media production theories and practices. Students will continue to develop professional knowledge and communication skills necessary for a career in film, TV, mass media and related areas. The film is taught in Chinese language.
Students learn through problem-based projects and this enables them to combine studies and applications. Students learn through lectures, classroom presentations, case studies and group assignments that help in the development of teamwork and creative potential of students.
The main emphasis of the course is to give students the best possible preparation for a successful career in film, TV and media industry.

This module is an advanced course that focuses upon the development and analysis of Non-Western cinemas and television. Emphasizing the different periods of major artistic movements, ideological trends, key films, and important filmmakers, this module aims to provide students with the analytical tools to read and analyze film and television creations. At the same time, students will be guided to produce media creations based on the conventions and traditions of non-western cinemas.

This module will introduce students to innovative and creative techniques that are necessary for film and television productions. This includes digital videography, camera setups and lighting, sound recording, and the use of non-linear editing software. Students will learn how to creatively use professional cameras and lighting setups, be able work in an organized and systematic production workflow, and finally to be able to operate and use a non-linear editing and sound technology software to complete their work.

This module will introduce students to advanced and creative techniques that are necessary for film and television productions. This includes green screen technologies, motion and digital graphics, and coloring techniques. Students will learn how to creatively use professional non-linear editing and visual effects software to enhance and complete their film and video work.

This module aims to consolidate all the learning outcomes of the previous modules to culminate in a series of projects that will showcase the creativity, technical competences, and storytelling skills of the student. Unlike at the diploma level, this module require a high level of proficiency and creativity from students where they are required to develop competition and contest level productions for the module.
Students will be guided through consultations, critique sessions, and workshops to help them bring their work to fruition.

This elective module aims to introduce students to use different interactive and new media technologies to craft a story in a multimedia platform. This includes the use and operation of various new media technologies that can range from aerial photography, augmented reality, 360 degree cameras, actions camera, underwater photography, and other special audio-visual recording devices. The aim is to equip students with the skills and knowledge of these media technologies to enhance and expand creative possibilities in their own independent media productions.

This course is designed to train learners’ script writing skills in film and television dramas. The course is divided into three practical training sections: reading section, writing section and structuring the script section. Learners will be exploring the differences between drama writing and fiction writing and through training will achieve the appropriate writers’ way of thinking.

In this module, students will be able to master the basic language and grammar of film and television directing. This includes the study of film language in terms of character motivation, beats, and development, staging and blocking with the camera, and crafting a coherent and cohesive mise-en scene. Students will also learn the importance of production and set design including locations, props, and costumes. At the same time, students will learn the necessary skills involved in producing including scheduling, budgeting, logistics planning, and permits and permissions. At the end of the module, students will be equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge on directing and producing for the screen.

In this module, the learners will learn to create, produce, and perform a short play for a live audience. The aim of the module is to allow students to work collaboratively and creatively to learn the various roles involved in producing, staging, and performing a play. This includes the development of the student’s communication, problem-solving, and collaborative skills in order to bring a creative performance and production to fruition.

These include how to find and select the most relevant information from source materials; understanding the concepts of qualitative and quantitative research; learning what plagiarism is and how to avoid it and learning how to do reference and use the Harvard referencing style.
